Nepal England Education Support (NEES) is a registered UK charity that supports a small school called Vinayak Niketan School, in the village of Thimi in Nepal.
Thimi, a traditional Nepalese village near Kathmandu, relies on pottery, mask-making, and farming for livelihood. Potters create their wares on manual wheels in the village streets, firing them in open kilns. The rise of inexpensive machine-made pottery has made it challenging to sell handcrafted goods, prompting villagers to explore furniture-making and other employment opportunities. Farmers cultivate vegetables and rice in the fertile soil, transporting their produce to Kathmandu markets or selling to hotels.
We are a small charity made up entirely of sponsors who came together to support children’s education in Nepal.
We sponsor poor children in the village of Thimi to keep them in education at Vinayak Niketan School. All of our sponsors support individual children by covering their school fees and contributing to school books and other educational equipment.
Our founder visited the school on holiday in Nepal over 25 years ago. Our founder pulled all of her friends together to become sponsors of children at the school, her passion carries us forward to continue to try to change lives.
In addition to the sponsorship of children at school, we also work on projects which help and support the wider community. From buying goats for a family to build a small herd for milk, to eye tests for children and teachers at Vinayak Niketan School. We look for small ways to make a real difference to the people of the local community with an overall objective of helping the whole family to progress and succeed in life.
A local young teacher, Surendra Prajapati in 1989, started Vinayak Shiksha Niketan School. He was concerned about the lack of a good education in Government schools and the high fees charged by private schools. Surendra’s aims are to educate the local children of Thimi at affordable fees. Initially he worked from home with one pupil, a slate board and piece of chalk. Now the new multi-story building is completed, the school has 45 teachers and 810 pupils.
